Yes, that part of the country is conducive to the growing of pomegranate trees. The seeds are sheathed in a tough membrane that you will have to remove. As with any hard case seed, you will have to nick the seed with a sharp knife or razor to accelerate the germination of the seed. Commercial seed companies use a solution of sulfuric acid to etch the outer hull of hard seeds. I don't recommend that procedure for you. If started indoors and protected from the weather, then it should be good to go in springtime. Use a good potting soil and give plenty of sunlight. The seed should germinate in 10-14 days. I don't recall any pomegranates being hybrid, so seed selection should not be a concern.
